Family-Owned, Community-First

From humble beginnings to seven studios across Southern California — still doing it the right way.

Honor the values of each person, capture Cherished Memories, and celebrate their legacy.

We believe every student, every family, and every milestone deserves to be captured with care — not processed through a corporate machine.

We do the right thing, even when no one is watching. Transparent communication with schools, families, and each other.

From Humble Beginnings to Seven Studios

Cherished Memories Photography started as an idea backed by a passion for photography on September 10, 2001. Despite growing into one of Southern California's largest school photography companies, we're still a family-run business committed to excellence — and to the communities we serve.

2001
The Beginning
Mike Norkin gets his business license at the age of 21 — fueled by a passion for photography and a vision for something bigger. Inspired by legendary portrait photographer Monte Zucker and his philosophy — "I don't photograph the world as it is; I photograph it as I want it to be" — Mike starts Cherished Memories producing video montages for weddings, golf tournaments, bar mitzvahs, and special events. That philosophy still drives everything we do today.
2002
Lake Elsinore Roots
Mike moves to Lake Elsinore and expands the company out of his garage, shooting family photos, corporate headshots, and working as a stringer for local newspapers.
2005
First School Contract
In April 2005, Elsinore High School reached out to Cherished Memories. We photographed a third of the senior class, and they asked to meet with us to gauge their interest in having us take over school photography. It was the start of everything.

COVID Hits — We Adapt
The pandemic brought the industry to a standstill. We were at rock bottom — but we refused to quit. While other photography companies shut down, we doubled down and worked directly with schools to provide photos outdoors. We also pivoted to videography, producing virtual graduation ceremonies for local high schools. We were one of the only companies willing and able to show up when it mattered most.

The People Who Started It All

Mike Norkin
Mike Norkin
Chief Executive Officer & Owner

Mike started Cherished Memories in 2001 at 21 years old with nothing but a business license and a garage. A past chairman of the Lake Elsinore Valley Chamber of Commerce, five-year chairman of the CTE Committee in LEUSD, and longtime volunteer with the Trauma Intervention Program — Mike's commitment to the community runs as deep as his commitment to photography. He still personally works with schools and families to make sure every experience meets his standard.

Chief Systems Officer & Owner

Mike and Alex first met when Mike interviewed Alex for RYLA — the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards camp for high school juniors. That connection sparked a partnership that changed both of their lives. Alex went on to graduate from UC Merced with a degree in Business Management, returned as General Manager at 22, and has since scaled the company from a single studio to seven locations across Southern California. To this day, Mike and Alex still volunteer together at RYLA every year — giving back to the same program that brought them together.
